“The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug.” — Mark Twain

Who I am and what I do

Based in Berlin for over a decade, I’m lucky to call a city home that’s as diverse as my own background. Growing up across China, Australia, and New Zealand before settling in Switzerland and Germany in my early 20s, I was constantly surrounded by different languages and cultures, an experience that shaped not just how I communicate but who I am. Language isn’t just my passion, it’s how I connect and bring people closer through clear and meaningful communication.

“To have another language is to possess a second soul.”
– Charlemagne

My science studies and professional experience in the pharmaceutical industry instilled in me a relentless focus on precision and clarity. This continues to help me immensely in my translation work when it comes to deep research and technical comprehension. I understand that every word matters, and I’m committed to ensuring your message is perfectly translated for maximum impact.

My value proposition

My mission is to deliver precise, ready-to-publish translations that feel natural and effortless so you can focus on what matters most: engaging with your audience. My value proposition consists of the following:
My decade of experience and expertise in the translation industry, my hands-on skills as a scientist and experience in the pharmaceutical industry, and, last but not least, my background as a native speaker.

I specialise in seamlessly transferring information from one language to another, ensuring nothing gets lost in the process. It’s more than just a job for me, it’s my pride and passion. I won’t stop until every word is perfect.

But enough about me! Let’s talk about You. How can I help you succeed today?

The power of a great translation

“In language, clarity is everything” — Confucius.

Throughout my career, I’ve seen how translations can elevate a message to new heights OR leave it “lost in translation.” What separates the remarkable from the forgettable? I’ve distilled it down to four guiding principles that shape my work, because a great translation doesn’t just deliver words, it sparks understanding and drives action.

1. Why native speakers make all the difference in translation

Imagine this: A German company launching a product in the UK with “Wir stehen für Qualität” translated as “We stand for quality”, which is technically correct but stiff and uninspiring for the English audience. A native translator might suggest “Quality you can trust,” making it more engaging. Even small missteps, such as tone, phrasing, or cultural references, can make your message fall flat or worse, alienate your audience.

How I help you succeed

Great translation isn’t just about accuracy, it’s about creating a connection. As a native English speaker with a global perspective, I bring an intuitive understanding of language nuances, from tone and phrasing to regional quirks. I don’t just translate words; I adapt (localise) your message to feel natural, culturally relevant, and impactful. Whether it’s a marketing campaign, technical document, or creative content, I ensure your text doesn’t just speak, it resonates.

2. Knowledge and competence matter

Great translation isn’t just about getting each word right, it requires subject-matter expertise. “Unter Belastung” in a medical context often describes symptoms occurring upon exertion, such as “chest pain during physical exertion.” A literal translation as “under stress” could misleadingly imply psychological strain instead of a physiological response, an error with real clinical consequences.

How I help you succeed

With a decade in translation and a background in science, I bridge the gap between complex technical content and clear, precise language. Over the years, I’ve translated everything from web pages and educational materials to research papers. When faced with unfamiliar topics, I apply my research skills to rigorously decode specialised terminology, ensure consistency, and adapt (localise) content for the target audience. The result? Accurate translations that stand up to scrutiny because great translation leaves no room for error.

3. Quality over scale

After years in the industry, I’ve seen how most translation agencies operate: The lowest bidder gets the job. And it shows. I’ve edited everything from unreadable gibberish to the rare, truly exceptional translations that don’t read like translations. The ratio? 100 to 1.

How I help you succeed

I don’t chase volume or outsource translations. I personally handle every project, so you’ll always know who’s responsible for the quality of your translation. I will reach out when needed to clarify intent and enhance the text because my goal isn’t just to meet your expectations but to exceed them.

4. Certified translator at your service

Why go through the trouble of hiring a professional translator? Can’t you just use Google Translate?

How I help you succeed

Over the years, I’ve been asked countless times about machine translation (MT) and whether I’m afraid of losing my job to AI. My answer is always the same: While tools like Google Translate have their place, a human translator is always needed to review and refine the final text. When you work with me, you’re not just hiring a certified translator with a Diploma in Translation (Master’s level) from the prestigious UK Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIOL), you’re getting someone who genuinely cares about your success. You and your audience deserve more than just a robotic output.
